Band News and Information!

News from Mr. Easton

July 2, 2008

Good morning,

I hope your summer is going well. I have a few things to let you know.

-Our Summer Letter and Calendar were mailed out a few weeks ago. If you did not receive them, please let me know and I will put them in the mail asap.

-Band Registration will be on Thursday, August 7th. All freshmen and new student parents will begin with a meeting at 5:30PM in the THS Auditorium. All returning students and parents may begin visiting the stations at 5:30. Registration is for PARENTS AND STUDENTS. This is the time to order supplies, pay fees, and sign up for volunteering opportunities. There is an approximate list of fees and prices in the Summer Letter.

We are in need of returning parents to help out with registration. We are trying to increase the number of cashiers to help reduce the time parents have to stand in line. Therefore, we are asking for about 15 volunteers. If you can help out, please contact Linda Hudgins, TBBC President, hudginslinda@gmail.com.

-We have cases of water in the concession stand that we need to sell. If they sit in the hot stands all summer, they will begin to taste like plastic. Right now, they are still just fine, but they will not last all summer in the heat. We are selling them at cost, $12.00 per case. If you are interested, please contact Becky Parchman, TBBC VP of Fundraising, beckyparchmantup@aol.com.

-As most of you know, the THS Stadium Concession Stand is our biggest fundraiser. We are looknig for two major items for the concession stand, a large upright freezer and a large "trailor" BBQ pit. The freezer will be used to store the meat we sell and to start selling ice cream. The BBQ pit is to cook the hamburgers, sausage, and brisket for the games. If you know of anyone who might be interested in donating or loaning either of the items to us, or somewhere we could purchase the items, please let Becky Parchman know. beckyparchmantup@aol.com

-We have already set our first two fundraisers for the year. In August, we will begin our Tupperware Fundraiser, and in October, we will begin our Coke Fundraiser. Since this is an "In-State Trip Year", a percentage of the profits from these fundraisers will go to the Band and a precentage will go to the student's trip accounts. As of now, we are looking at going to South Padre in May for our trip.

-Just a reminder, Summer Band begins August 4th at 8:30AM. All Student Leadership Team Members (Officers and DI's) will meet on July 31st at 9:00AM.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Good morning,

I wanted to let you know that we have hired a new horn lesson teacher for the district. She comes highly recommended. I know we have had our issues in the horn lesson area in the past. I think we have finally found a great horn teacher who will commit to our kids and consistently show up for lessons. After meeting with her recently, I am convinced that she will do a great job for us.

Please find a letter from her below. She is ready to get started this summer. Please give her a call to get going.

Dear parents,

My name is Jessica Price and I am the newly hired horn lesson teacher for Tomball ISD. I have recently relocated to this area after spending four years teaching privately in the Austin, TX area. While in Austin, I taught at the same schools (six in total) for the entire four years.

I wanted to introduce myself to you all and invite you to consider enrolling your child in private lessons. I am looking to start lessons for the summer within two weeks. I am anxious to start teaching as soon as possible, since I am aware that there has been a situation concerning private horn lessons this past school year. I want you to know that I will be stepping into this position whole heartedly and with enthusiasm to raise horn lessons to a higher standards so the students are receiving consistent, individual instruction so they can be the horn players they want to be.

I ask that you consider putting your child in summer lessons. These lessons are beneficial because it provides the students an opportunity to continue developing their skills during the summer, when performing opportunities are scarce. Because there are no immediate competitions during the summer, students are able to work on their own individual problem areas, as well as having fun before the school year starts and competition season begins. Also, the region music comes out in July and students taking lessons over the summer are able to receive that music early.

If you would like to enroll your child in lessons or have any questions, please feel free to contact me or Mr. Easton. I look forward to the opportunity to be a part of your child's music education.
